A Margarita! For the lady
$ 7000.00 on the rocks
Sponge cake, fried chicken
And a root beer for the man!
Alas! It’s a speakeasy not my kitchen.

I shall be damned ! but only after you
Frankly my dear I give a damn!…
I shall be damned! but after you…
Speakeasy…and the rest is history
Alas! It is history and not my kitchen oven.

Rose, She is not beautiful! She is ugly!
Bouquet, She was not beautiful, now she is ugly
You are not beautiful! You are ugly!
I was not beautiful! I am ugly!
Alas! It is not the mirror it is the speakeasy.

Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof;
Bricks and straws; ferment and chill
A little wine for a merry heart
And the loaf of bread for a smile
Alas! The speakeasy; it cannot chill the marrow.

Of brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers..
In wine and ferment; the speakeasy chill
The slur and word.. lost in the blur and slime
Of lost and found in truth and tell
Alas! The speakeasy; the price of wine and soul

Sunsets at the tavern with ale and wine
Loud and sultry; lost at utmost
Speaking, slurring, traipsing, tripping
Boot and pump in measures bid
Long and short in upshots of need and plenty
Alas! The speakeasy my utmost lost.. and soul..

Sunrise in the sunshine brilliant
Warming, smarting eye and soul
To ire and tears …a brilliance confounding
In the smile and balm of morning light
Ahoy! A dawn of loss and pride…of home and soul.
-8-
Sunrise in the morning light of soul
Speaking, telling of ferment and chill
The utmost lost and half found in the sun
The smile and balm of heaven’s sunlight
The speakeasy and the morning arms..
